Program Description
With support from Arts Midwest, Racing Magpie staff led a creative process with selected organizations’ stakeholders with a primary focus on improving practices of including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists in all aspects of organizational decision-making processes. From May 2022 through January 2023, four organizations from across South Dakota were selected for participation in the program. The purpose of these consultations was to support ongoing processes or begin new ones to institutionalize new approaches and practices to engage with BIPOC artists and community members.
In May of 2023, Racing Magpie released an online webinar intended as a tool to support South Dakota arts organizations in starting and maintaining self-reflective and constructive processes with their staff, boards, and communities. This video is being shared with all organizations with the hope of building dialogue and always improving the ways in which arts organizations include and are reflective of their communities and artists. Please feel free to utilize these resources to stimulate conversation and continue to improve your organization’s engagement.
